Rather than trying to visually brighten the space, we leaned into the lack of natural light with dark, textural walls and a deliberately moody palette.

A full-height mirror brings reflection and dimension into the room without taking away from that darker atmosphere. Above the vanity, sculptural glass pendants by SKLO become an unexpected focal point, their translucent forms standing out against the deep walls.

The result is a small room that doesn’t try to feel bigger. Instead, its scale and darkness become part of what makes it memorable.

At TIPLER Design, we’re less interested in following a design rule simply because it’s familiar. We’re interested in understanding the space in front of us and making choices that strengthen what it can be.

Sometimes that means recognizing that the thing you’re tempted to work against is exactly the thing worth embracing.

Photography: Kieran Reeves Photography

Featured Project: TIPLER Showcase Home | Driftwood, TX

There are certain design rules we hear so often that they start to feel like fact.
