The Details You Don’t See in the Finished Photos

Interior design process for a luxury home

We’ve had the pleasure of working with some incredibly talented photographers who capture our completed homes beautifully. Their work gives us the opportunity to share the architecture, interiors, and details long after a project is complete.

But even the most beautiful photograph can only capture the finished result.

Behind every image are hundreds of decisions that happened months, sometimes years, before the camera arrived.

It Starts Earlier Than You Think

Interior design decisions begin well before finishes and furnishings are selected.

Cabinetry dimensions, lighting locations, electrical plans, plumbing fixtures, ceiling details, material transitions, and furniture placement can all influence decisions made during architecture and construction.

Knowing where a sofa will eventually sit can help determine where floor outlets belong. Understanding the cabinetry design can influence lighting and electrical placement before walls are ever closed.

The Inches Matter

Sometimes the difference between a room that feels right and one that feels slightly off comes down to a few inches.

The height of a pendant. The depth of a built-in. The clearance around a dining table. Where drapery meets the floor. How two materials transition from one space to another.

Individually, they’re small decisions. Together, they create the proportion, function, and cohesion you see in the finished space.

Before the Camera Arrives

The photographs capture the beautiful part.

What they don’t show are the drawings, specifications, measurements, material samples, revisions, coordination, and conversations that came before them.

At TIPLER Design, our approach to full-service interior design and interior architecture allows us to consider those details throughout the process, creating homes that are thoughtfully resolved long before their first photograph is taken.

And when the time finally comes to capture them, we’re grateful for the talented artists who help us tell their story.
